Window Management

BetterStage gives you multiple ways to send windows between stages — from quick keyboard shortcuts to visual drag-and-drop and bulk selection.

Send with Keyboard Shortcuts

The fastest way to move a window to another stage is with a keyboard shortcut. The focused window is sent to the target stage instantly.

Send focused window to Stage 1–9Opt+Shift+1 through Opt+Shift+9

The window disappears from the current stage and appears on the target stage. You stay on your current stage.

Drag via the Snap Wheel

When dragging a window by its title bar, the Snap Wheel appears with a ring of stage icons around the edge. Drag the window onto a stage icon to send it to that stage.

  1. Start dragging a window by its title bar.
  2. The Snap Wheel appears at the center of the screen. The outer ring shows your stages.
  3. Drag the window onto the target stage icon and release.
  4. The window is sent to that stage and removed from the current one.

Multi-Window Grab

Need to move several windows at once? Multi-window grab lets you select multiple windows and send them all to another stage in one action.

  1. Hold Ctrl+Opt+Shift and click each window you want to select. A visual indicator appears on selected windows.
  2. Once you have selected all the windows you need, press Opt+Shift+1 through Opt+Shift+9 to send all selected windows to that stage.
  3. All selected windows move together. The selection clears automatically.

Tips

  • Click an already-selected window with Ctrl+Opt+Shift held to deselect it.
  • Press Esc to clear the selection without sending.
  • You can select windows from different apps — they all move together.
  • While dragging a window, right-click to cancel the drag and return the window to its original position.
