Window Management

BetterStage gives you multiple ways to send windows between stages — from quick keyboard shortcuts to visual drag-and-drop and bulk selection. Within a monitor, the active Window Mode decides how dragging behaves: macOS Native windows move freely, Bento Box supports drag-to-swap and drop-on-edge insert, and Tabbed Layout Mode lets you drag a tab from one pane onto another.

Send with Shortcuts

The fastest way to move a window to another stage is with a shortcut. The default is a keyboard chord; the same Send action can also use a mouse button or trackpad gesture from Settings > Shortcuts. The focused window is sent to the target stage instantly.

Send focused window to Stage 1–9Opt+Shift+1 through Opt+Shift+9

The window disappears from the current stage and appears on the target stage. You stay on your current stage.

Send via the Snap Wheel

Open the Snap Wheel with a configured trigger — a trackpad gesture, a middle-click, or a hotkey from Settings > Snap Wheel. The outer ring shows your stages. Choose a stage icon to send the focused window there.

  1. Open the Snap Wheel with your trigger.
  2. The outer ring shows your stages.
  3. Select the target stage icon.
  4. The window is sent to that stage and removed from the current one.
